The area around Las Ramblas is well known as the most lively part of Barcelona and finding a cheap hotel there does not always guarantee quiet accommodation. After a stroll to Barcelona's tourist attractions, during the day you might want to enjoy its nightlife or perhaps look for a hotel not as close to Las Ramblas.

Madrid is known for its attractions including museums like the El Prado. Madrid is a much larger city then Barcelona and hence the center is not as focused on one particular spot or street.
